Day of Infamy

What I want to know is how I can get me one of them direct lines to God so I could’ve seen this coming.

And so ends one of the most outrageously bad days in Miami sports history.

Nick Saban commits what Dan Le Batard calls the biggest betrayal in franchise history and bolts the Fins for Tuscaloosa. Then, hours later, Pat Riley announced he needs knee and hip surgery and will be out for an indeterminate amount of time.

It’s been a long, busy day and I’m glad you could come along for the ride. You guys came strong in the comments. I’ve never seen so many f-bombs dropped in a comment section of any blog in my life. Needless to say, you’re all pissed. And I’m right there with you. I bought into the whole Saban As Savior crap and now feel like a complete tool for it. Saban did betray us and did go out like a punk. But I do think we’re better off without Saban. Our biggest concern is who will play QB for us and who we’ll be drafting in April. But today is a day to vent. So have at it.

Unless there’s a sudden news flash announcing that Dwyane Wade’s head has exploded, I’m done for today. Look for my column on who the Fins should target as the next head coach tomorrow.

Here’s a preview: Bill Cowher will NOT come here. Why would he leave a team he just won the Super Bowl with to come down to this mess? Cowher is leaving Pittsburgh because he wants to take a break. This is the last place he’d come.

Also, Chris Mortensen of ESPN suggested the Fins should target Jim Bates. Chris Mortensen is smoking crack.

Anyway, I look forward to your suggestions and comments and maybe I’ll e-mail them to Wayne Huizenga.

Until then, enjoy being America's laughing stock, Miami sports fans!!!

By the way, tonight is the Sugar Bowl between Notre Dame and LSU, featuring two QBs I'd like the Fins to target in April's Draft: Brady Quinn (ND) and JaMarcus Russell (LSU)

I leave you today with more reading material:

Not to blow up your spot, dude, but here's my list of candidates (in no order, really):

Cam Cameron
Ken Whisenhunt
Ron Rivera
Norm Chow

I'd be please with anyone from that list.

Actually, as long as we don't hire a college coach or a retread I'll be happy.

Bates would be a retread. Fuck off, Mort.

Not a problem, BP.

I like your list. I've got the first 3 on mine. I especially like Cameron and Rivera. Not too crazy about Chow but he's not bad.

And I agree -- no re-treads and no college guys. Saban was the final straw in convincing me NCAA coaches need to stay in the NCAA.
